gardens

Has anybody ever thought about a large garden with paths for strolling, divided into sections for growing different flowers such as a rose garden, wildflower garden, zinnias, lillies etc. and especially a botanical garden?   Water features? A lilly pond? It is one of the attractions I look for when I'm a tourist.  Just wondering.

Re: gardens

The committee should consult with the Sibley Nature Center about constructing botanical gardens throughout the city that conform to the area's natural horticultural requirements.  This community may not have enough water resources for its long-term survival to grow plants and develop ecosystems that do not naturally coincide with our rugged, water-deprived environment.

Re: gardens

I think that this is a great idea. As a sibley center volunteer, I completely agree with you about consulting the Sibley for choosing the correct plants which are native/adaptable to this area.

Re: gardens

Texas Agrilife Extension has published lists of native/well-adapted plants for this area as well.

Re: gardens

We had a a few small scale trials of this which didn't work out too well. The "rose garden" at the downtown Fire Station and the Midland College greenhouse. One that is quite nice to take a stroll through is the CAF memorial gardens at the airport.
