Light Rail System

Has Midland ever had a light rail system?  We have fantastic boulevards, such as "A" Street, Wadley Avenue, and Big Spring Street, with expansive stretches of asphalt that the city could turn into useful light rail systems with lush greenery in the median.  That schemata could help beautify the city as well as alleviate numerous problems that have begun affecting our community such as urban sprawl and obesity.

Re: Light Rail System

I am on board (pun intended)   Couple this idea with an inter-city connection between Odessa and Midland through a park and ride service using light rail or (in the interim at least) a comfortable, safe, reliable bus system.  Both cities would need a very good intra-city public transportation system to make this work.  That system would also need to have operating hours from, say, 6 AM to 11 PM to make this viable for transportation supporting work and play.  With such a system, you often find folks wanting to live close to the access points, which could have a constraining effect on sprawl and a positive effect on property values.  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to get to the airport or the new Performing Arts Center through a public transportation system?  Wouldn't have to worry as much about parking.

Re: Light Rail System

That's a cool idea.  My son-in-law pointed out that although Dallas-Ft. Worth has a rail system that interconnects, the Cowboy stadium does not have any rail service but they are creating a massive road system around the stadium.  It would have been better to keep people off the roadway after the games.

Additionally, I agree that hours for EZ Rider should be extended.
